Estate Planning Services

Wills

A will is a legal document in which you decide how your assets will be distributed and who will care for your minor children.

Trusts

A trust directs a third party (trustee) to hold and distribute your assets for the beneficiaries you choose.

Advanced Directives

Advanced directives allow you to decide how your medical care is handled if you can't do it yourself.

Why do you need an estate plan?

Considering what happens to your assets following your death may not be the most pleasant of tasks, but if you don’t do it, the state will decide who will inherit your property.

A will allows you to choose who will inherit your assets after you die, and to nominate a person (called an executor) to be in charge of the probate administration. If you have minor children, a will also allows you to nominate a guardian in the event you and your spouse pass away unexpectedly.

Estate planning is not just about what happens to your property after you die. With advanced directives and powers of attorney, you can make life more manageable for you and your family if your health should fail.

There are two main types of advance directives. The Living Will instructs physicians about when to withdraw medical care if you have a terminal condition. The Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care lets you designate an agent to make health care decisions if you become unable to do so.
